Chapter Four

The next day, Ethan couldn’t stop from reaching up to touch his lips time and time again. Even though hours had passed since he’d kissed Brandon, Ethan still swore that he could feel the sizzle that’d passed between them.

It wasn’t as if Ethan hadn’t been kissed before. He’d had his experiences and lived to tell about them. Nothing had come close to that brief contact that he and Brandon had experienced. Not even the whole year that Ethan had dated a bull rider could compare. Of course, it didn’t hurt that Brandon could care less that people saw him with Ethan in public. Ethan’s ex, Curt, had refused to go out anywhere. He’d always claimed that it’d hurt his image if he were seen with another man. Ethan, fool that he was, had put up with it for far too long. Thank God he’d finally smartened up and dumped the asshole, although they continued to bump into each other all the time. In fact, the jerk was at the American Royal. Ethan just hoped that their paths didn’t cross. His life was going too well at the moment. The last thing he needed was for that jerk and his bad attitude to ruin everything.

Part of him just wanted to vacate the trailer that he shared with Nichole and go back to their family home. The only thing that held Ethan back was the fact that, even though he was no longer able to compete, his father still needed Ethan’s help.

That didn’t stop Ethan from looking into the crowd all day, in hopes of catching a glimpse of the hockey player. Finally, just as the sky was beginning to get dark, Brandon appeared. He looked just as hot as the day before, even wearing a pair of worn jeans and some old T-shirt. It took all of Ethan’s self-control not to run over to Brandon. He forced himself to stay put and keep brushing the horse he was working on. After all, Ethan didn’t want to make things too easy for Brandon. This time he was going to make his love interest work at getting his attention. Ethan might be young, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t learn from his past mistakes.

“Hey, I was beginning to think that I wasn’t going to see you today,” Ethan said as Brandon approached.

Brandon reached over then petted the horse. “I had practice all day. I would have texted you, but idiot that I was, I didn’t get your number last night.”

“You could have easily called my sister and got it. I’m sure she would have been more than happy to give it to you. In fact, you should see her today. She’s strutting around here, acting like she’d turned water into wine or something,” Ethan retorted.

“Are you trying to say that she’s pleased with her matchmaking skills?”

“That would be understating things a bit.”

Brandon leaned against a nearby wall. “I guess that would explain all the you owe me a drink texts that she’s been sending my way.
